My name is April Lawson, and I began my journey into childbirth in late 2009, when I became pregnant with my first child. Childbirth scared me at that point in my life and always left me feeling nauseous and afraid. I knew that I didn't want that feeling for my birth, so I began to research my options. I decided that for my body a water birth was the best thing for me. I knew I made the right decision when I suddenly began to joyfully anticipate my birth! I was no longer afraid and looked forward to that day. We found a midwife who was willing to work with us and she began to educate me more than anyone in my life has ever done about birth. She taught me all the things that are not necessary in birth along with common misconceptions. My passion for birth began to expand tremendously. My birth was difficult, to say the least. I had a 36 hour labor and didn't sleep for any of it. I wanted to give up, to just sleep for a while and then come back to it later. After finally giving birth, a rush of energy began to flow throughout my entire body. I had never felt a high like this in my entire life! I was amazed at the whole process. I was amazed at the energy of it all, how my body progressively would handle the contractions waiting for me to adjust to each new level, everything and everyone working together to bring this life into the world. From that day forward I committed my life to moms-to-be, their families, and of course their child! Through my experience something arose within me that is so passionate, something I desire to share with you and your family. Whether you choose to labor at home, in a birth center, or in a hospital, I will be there for and with you from beginning to end.
